About Me

I am Nichole, and I am 23 years old and newly married. My husband and I live on my family farm in southern Indiana. There we have too many horses to count, a couple beef steers, chickens and of course cats and dogs. Our "babies" for the time being are our indoor cats, Reese and Cookie, and our German Shepherd, Sugar.

I have lived in the country since I was 10 years old, and have never wanted to live anywhere else. I thrive off of living a self-sufficient life, although I am not quite to the point I would like to be. It's a process, and I hope to be constantly moving towards the goal of living as much off the land as we can.

At this point in my life, I am balancing family, full-time work at a grocery store, work at the farm, and finishing my Associates Degree in business management.  Eventually we would like for me to quit my job at the store, and run a business off of our farm.

Why I Created This Blog

I have started this blog to organize and record my thoughts and ideas, and hopefully share them with like-minded individuals. I want this blog to be a source of information, a place for me to pass on ideas I have come across and for others to share their ideas.

  1. I ♥ self-sufficiency! You are so fortunate to live where you can do this. I've enjoyed reading several of your posts and GFC following you. I look forward to reading more about your life-style!

  2. Finally someone I can relate to! You are blessed to live where you can do this. My husband, four children and I live in town right now but are purchasing some property so we can become more self-sufficient. We already grow and can/freeze as many veggies as we can as well as put up our own beef and this year a pig! It take lots of work and patience especially when you have little ones to watch. I no longer buy laundry detergent at the store. I make it! I'm going to try homemade hand soap and dish washer detergent this week. Saturday my 8 yr old daughter and I will be baking our own sandwich bread for the week. Anything to be less dependent on the big super stores! I love what you are doing and wish there were more people like you and your husband. With all the changes that we have made in the last few years we still have a long way to go before I can call us self-sufficient! I too look forward to reading more about your life-style!

    Thanks, Jennifer

  3. That is great! It sounds like you are well on your way, especially since you live in town! Congratulations on buying your own property. The great thing about living this way, is you are not only teaching the next generation forgotten skills, you are making great memories in the process!
